Luke 13:23,24 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
Here we see a question of curiosity -- Are there few that be saved?
Another good question is, Can I be saved?
Yes. How? Strive to enter in at the strait gate
This is directed to all, it is in the plural form: Strive ye.
Those that would enter in at the strait gate must strive to enter. Many will seek to enter in, and shall not be able; they seek, but they do not strive.
Consider driving down a road that is striaght, clear of obstacles. This is an easy drive to your destination. You can see your destination clear in front of you.
Now think about driving through a city with many obstacles. There are many other cars, people walking across streets, lights and intersections and raod signs, buildings and business signs as distractions. All these obstacles slow you down, take your attention and cause you to get off course.
Many people seeking Heaven get off course by obstacles too. This can be anything from not being in Church and being taught about God's word, not reading and studying what the Bible has to say, false hopes in baptism, traditions passed down to us by family, thinking our good works are enough, giving money to a Church, being a member of a Church, etc.
So will more people go to heaven or to hell? It is a hard matter to get to heaven, and will not be gained without great difficulty. We must strive with God in prayer, strive against sin, strive with our whole heart, strive against tradition, incorrect ideas (baptism, membership, good deeds).
Think how many desire for salvation and yet perish. There are few that will be saved (and ever hope to see Heaven). Many will seek to enter in, and shall not be able; because they seek, but they do not strive.
The reason why many come short of grace is because they rest in lazy seeking of that which Heaven will not be attained without much striving. Many may take some good steps, they seek but never strive.
Those that desire to seek Heaven hope to climb up in some way by their own merits; but they never strive to find out how they really can get there.
Matthew 7:14 "Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
Matthew 22:14 "For many are called, but few are chosen."
When Noah was safe in the ark, God shut the door, to exclude all those that looked for shelter in the approaching flood. Luke 13:25 "When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from,’
